In spite of her youth ROCIO MARQUEZ is known as the “Southern Star” because of her outstanding flamenco voice, a gorgeously supple instrument that bears the essence and the echoes of the past, sweetness and versatility and a wide range of emotions.
Rocío Márquez, the new queen of mining cante, was born in Huelva (Andalusia) 22 years ago, she studied flamenco at the Fundación Cristina Heeren and Musical Education at the Universidad de Sevilla. She is the proud winner of different awards for her flamenco interpretations. Last year she won the Fosforito award in Calasparra and this year she received the Ciudad de Jumilla award.
In August 2008 Rocío Márquez won the Lámpara Minera of the Minas International Flamenco Vocals Festival (Murcia), the most important international Flamenco award. The young vocalist received a total of four prizes, such a success has been unheard since 1993 when Miguel Poveda stormed the event.
